Citizenship is being an active and responsible member of a community. Good citizens follow rules and work together to  make their community a better place.

School Bus Rules

Picture
In September, our principal Mr. Sanita read the book, Manners on the School Bus, to our entire school at an assembly.  He led a discussion with students about the correct way to behave when they are on the bus. Student ideas shared were: crossing safely, saying "Hello" or "Good morning," talking quietly, sitting facing forward in the seat, being kind to each other and listening to the bus driver.
The book also gave students other behaviors to think about and do. Manners on the School Bus is just one of the books in the Way to Be! Manners series. The other books are pictured at the bottom of this page and can be found in the nonfiction section of our library.

Showing Good Manners Chart

Mr. Sanita also spoke to students about a way to put what they learned from the book into practice.
Students met in their bus groups and learned about a chart that they would use on their bus. The chart had every bus passengers name on it and would be used to recognized and award students for showing good manners on the bus. Older students practiced using the chart and each bus driver was given the chart to use for the month.
A bus drill followed the assembly where students were taught bus safety rules and their responsibilities.
